Philosophy classes
PHILOSOPHY
CLASSES
In my philosophy classes I
present activities related to the curriculum but I always link them with
everyday events or with situations that are meaningful for my students, because
otherwise it would be impossible for the students to express their opinions
with sincerity.
Honesty is the most
important thing in my philosophy classes. It is a very complicated aspect of
teaching because everywhere you "lie" or do not say things with the
necessary rigor so that people can build an opinion.
In Barcelona, a historical
moment is currently being lived, and although in my classes I try to introduce
elements of distraction, when I ask my students for a definition about Holocaust,
for example, the concern for "truth" is always present. The way I
comment on my students' interventions is always looking to integrate and
relativize the thought we say "right". This is sometimes very
difficult, because students are in the process of learning the emotional
management of their feelings and do not accept easily the comments of the
teacher, no matter how neutral or academic I may present them.
The collaboration between
the students is usually good because when they prepare the topic of discussion
they are relaxed because they have a lot of freedom. The problem arises when
they must integrate the official opinion on the definition of life, for
example, with their opinions. What is most difficult for them is to understand
that it is not possible to do philosophy without an honest attitude towards
themselves and their colleagues.
