I find your work in line with PBL very interesting, it is a very original work and I suppose that it is highly valued by your students. I am a philosophy teacher and I like to work with PBL "live", that is, through class discussions and where students can interact "in reality". However, I believe that the work you do is really useful for students because communications in the not too distant future will be like that and students like technology a lot. I also think that although the presence is virtual, telematic communication is very valid because the student has to "think" more when communicating through a technology. I have worked for many years teaching languages and I am of the opinion that the quality of communication is better when people have to control another variable, for example a digital technology or a language other than the mother tongue.

Comments (Zulmira Magalhae)

COMMENTS (Zulmira Magalhae) I think to introduce a subject with facts of really life it's the best way the students have  for learning. I consider very natural to teach mathematics from the use of money. Money is very necessary to be able to have the basic needs covered and speak clearly about it, with mathematical exercises.  I also think that it is very good that after daily use of money, when the student can already imagine the problem naturally, the teacher is concerned to explain in detail the complexity of the problem. He repetition when the activity is perfectly understood is fun and allows the student to memorize the necessary skills to solve the problem well. The use of games in this phase of learning could be very motivating. In the cases that personalized learning is necessary, the references to the real world seem excellent to me. There are students who need very specific strategies to be able to imagine and solve dilemmas correctly, mathematics bein...

It’s not that I’m so smart, It’s just that I stay with problems longer                                                                                    Albert Einstein The root of the word “Assessment” is from the latin “Assidere” which means “to sit beside”.

What is effective collaboration

WHAT IS EFFECTIVE COLLABORATION 1.COLLABORATION Students work together in pairs or groups to: discuss an issue, solve a problem and create a product. 2.KNOWLEDGE CONSTRUCTION Activities that require knowledge construction  ask students to interpret, analyse, synthesize or evaluate information or ideas. The main requirement is the part of the activity that students  spend the most time and effort on and the part  that educators focus on when granding.   3.REAL-WORLD PROBLEM SOLVING AND INNOVATION Problem-solving involves a task with a defined challenge for the student: develop a solution, complete a task, design a complex product that meets a set of requirements. 4.USE OF ICT FOR LEARNING 5.SELF-REGULATION A learning activity is considered long term if students work on it for a substantive period of time. When students plan their own work, they make decisions about the schedule and steps they will follow to accomplish the task. Planning their ...

Philosophy classes

PHILOSOPHY CLASSES In my philosophy classes I present activities related to the curriculum but I always link them with everyday events or with situations that are meaningful for my students, because otherwise it would be impossible for the students to express their opinions with sincerity. Honesty is the most important thing in my philosophy classes. It is a very complicated aspect of teaching because everywhere you "lie" or do not say things with the necessary rigor so that people can build an opinion. In Barcelona, a historical moment is currently being lived, and although in my classes I try to introduce elements of distraction, when I ask my students for a definition about Holocaust, for example, the concern for "truth" is always present. The way I comment on my students' interventions is always looking to integrate and relativize the thought we say "right". This is sometimes very difficult, because students are in the process of learnin...

Hi,

Hi, My institute is in Sentmenat, a town near Sabadell (Barcelona). I am the philosophy, ethics and mediation teacher and I know practically all the students because I only do one hour per week of each subject, less philosophy that we have two hours a week. I really like my profession because I consider it very useful and necessary for students, especially in these moments of change where the kids need models of social behavior. In our institute we all know each other, the coexistence is good and the students participate in many organized activities in Sentmenat.
